dear diary,

today we discovered that our GP seems to have done better than all our other subjects, except maybe chinese. two As and a large pass percentage were announced. this seemed to cheer the class up considerably and also summoned the usual overwhelming amount of modesty from consistent top scorer edwina yeo shi en ('i screwed up my essay :(')

today we also discovered the missing evolutionary link between man and monkey. the antics of alexander yap jiawei being considered as primal as compared to a normal late adolescent male is in error; rather, he exhibits advanced neurological activity, ability to communicate (occasionally) and opposable thumbs (which he uses to great effect to vault windows), which are really atypical of a primate. truly remarkable.

great philosopher brian koh ming cong had to enter a deep catatonic state to fully reroute his brainpower to the unprecedented task of reconciling all four of the general theories/schools of thought of newton, hume, darwin and aristotle. he was interrupted several times by an unnamed dogamatic ruler in which the precarious thought process was demolished. however, brian managed to complete his mission in the subsequent lesson. upon learning the greater truth of the world about us, untold sadness clouded his eyes and he was dispirited for a full hour.

the class magi, vanessa tan jia xin and tommy tan hsien loon, resolved to alleviate his suffering by inscribing upon the hairy backs of brian's hands: ':) ' and ':D don't glum'; a spell of epic proportions that overdid the job. soon brian was reduced back to his original state of delirious happiness, but it didn't stop there. in a bid to satisfy the suddenly aroused urge to nitpick, brian proceeded to run his fingers through the balding swimmer ng chen kai's dorsal hairs. soon chen kai looked as though mislaid mine from the vietcong, tripped by brian's ravaging hands, had shaped his hair and also created a crater in the skull, which an unnamed, experienced trichologist mistook as a bald spot.

the rest of the day was boring, but we did learn how to find boxes in a table.

i am worried, diary. each day slips by and yet the price of cookies has not fallen in the least. since the average total cost price for making one cookie is so low and the demand is rather price elastic, would it not make sense to increase quantity demanded by lowering the price of one unit of cookie to maximize profits? or does subway-sandwiches-co. have another final cause in mind, like trying to up sandwich sales by raising the cookie price up 20 cents? well, they have assumed that the XED between both goods has a negative sign, meaning that they are close substitutes, but this is not true! in fact, they have assumed a perfect economy where only two goods and one type of each good exists, as well as with subway being the only firm to supply goods.

well too bad. that isn't true either. but it made me think: if the price of a cookie goes up to a point where customer satisfaction is compromised greatly, does it make the cookie a luxury good? does the overpricing of a good add to its intrinsic quality/worth? as i expanded my views to the whole diamond market, which is the most successful money-laundering scheme (in fact, the scheme is as transparent as diamonds but it works anyway), the girl behind me made a *tsk* noise as though she had read my anti-carbon thoughts.

i stepped forward and offered another $2.20 to the uncle, and bought my 4th, 5th and 6th double choc cookie, which is a good that LDMR does not apply to. i do fear that if this keeps up i'll run out of money OR subway will run out of cookies (today i ran out of money, yesterday they ran out of cookies). in any case, i am determined to foil their sandwich-pushing scheme and will not stop purchasing double choc cookies until they readjust the price.

... and here's the quote of the day:
The chains of habit are too weak to be felt until they are too strong to be
broken.
by Samuel Johnson, some great English literary critic.
